How might you use online collaboration tools to encourage students to read, write, talk, listen, reflect and build community?

Pear Deck enables any teacher to create interactive presentations in which students can respond in real-time or asynchronously to a variety of questions. Pear Deck works like any slide presentation tool, and you can even import your old PowerPoints, Google Slides, and PDFs to turn them into powerful interactive Pear Decks right from Google Drive.Students answers display instantaneously and anonymously to their peers, which promotes an active, flexible, and engaging learning environment. Teachers can use the summative analytics after the lesson to guide future instruction or respond on the fly as needed. By the end of this session, you will learn how to use Pear Deck to construct lessons that improve critical thinking skills, increase motivation, and develop students’ interpersonal skills. Or flip Pear Deck on its head to have students use it as content creation tool to assess their mastery and engage their peers.

Padlet is a virtual wall that students use to express their thoughts on a topic. Students can write embed audio and video and have students respond in the form of a threaded discussion. With password protection, you can use different padlets for various classes or groups of students.

Whether you attend the session in person at Islandwood or you interact with it at another time and place, we hope this gives you some ideas for how you might Pear Deck and Padlet in your class.
